The first 100 electric vehicle charging points have now been installed across Gloucestershire, with 900 more to come.

Approximately one-third of CO2 emissions in Gloucestershire are from transportation, with private vehicles contributing 55%. However with current and planned charging points in public areas, the council aims to encourage more residents to switch to electric vehicles by providing convenient access to charging facilities.

Gloucestershire received a significant boost with a £3.629 million grant from the Department for Transport's Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Capital Fund to support the installation program.

Initially, over 30 sites were selected for the first phase, and residents were invited to suggest locations for the charging points. The Stroud district was a key focus for the Gloucestershire County Council and charging points have been established in Bowbridge Lane in Stroud and Nortonwood in Nailsworth.

Various locations have been chosen, including 12 in Cheltenham, 8 in Gloucester, 3 in Cirencester, one in Fairford, 3 in the Forest of Dean, and 3 in Bishop's Cleeve, Winchcombe, and Tewkesbury.

In many places, two twin charge points have been installed, allowing four electric vehicles to charge simultaneously. In areas with limited parking, two bays are initially marked out, with plans to increase them to four based on demand.

100 charging points have been set up throughout the county (find them here) . By the end of March 2024, an additional 30 points will be installed, with 870 more planned over the next two years.
