268-mile electric supermini set to goe on sale in September 2026

The new AION UT electric supermini will be available to order in the UK from September 2026, offering up to 268 miles of range, rapid charging and an eight-year ownership package. First customer deliveries are expected in October.

AION is getting ready to launch its second electric car in the UK, with AION UT order books set to be opening in September 2026 ahead of the first customer deliveries in October.

Designed to blur the line between a compact B-segment electric supermini and a larger C-segment hatchback, the AION UT combines city-friendly dimensions with an impressive 268-mile range, a spacious interior and equipment more commonly associated with larger and more expensive cars.

For drivers looking for a small electric car that can handle both the daily commute and longer journeys, the UT could be one to watch.

How far can the AION UT travel on a charge?

The AION UT has a range of up to 268 miles from its 60kWh battery.

AION says this gives the UT the longest standard range in its class, making it particularly interesting for drivers who like the convenience of a smaller EV but don't want to compromise significantly on longer-distance capability.

Its range means the UT isn't restricted to urban driving. A 268-mile figure puts weekend trips and longer motorway journeys comfortably within its remit.

How quickly does the AION UT charge?

The AION UT can charge from 30% to 80% in 24 minutes under suitable rapid-charging conditions.

That combination of range and rapid charging should make the UT considerably more versatile than the traditional idea of an electric city car.

A small EV with 204PS

Don't let the supermini proportions fool you.

The AION UT uses a 204PS electric motor and can accelerate from 0–62mph in 7.3 seconds.

That should provide more than enough performance for urban driving while also giving the UT the acceleration needed for joining motorways and overtaking on faster roads.

AION Auto UK Managing Director Jon Wakefield describes the philosophy behind the car simply:

“The AION UT is a small car that acts big on longer journeys.”

Designed in Milan for European drivers

The AION UT has also been created specifically with European customers in mind.

Styling was led by parent company GAC's Milan design studio, giving the UT a distinctive look that includes owl-inspired headlights and a 2x2 ‘ice cube’ daytime running light and indicator arrangement.

Five exterior colours will be available.

The European focus goes deeper than the styling, too.

The UT has been engineered specifically for UK roads, with changes made to its springs, dampers, bump-stops and calibration. A revised anti-roll bar has also been fitted.

Those changes build on the UK-specific engineering work previously carried out for the larger AION V.

What's included inside the AION UT?

AION is aiming to bring features normally associated with larger cars into the supermini segment.

Standard equipment includes:

  • Heated front seats

  • 14.6-inch central touchscreen

  • 360-degree surround-view camera

  • High-quality interior materials

Rather than offering a complicated range of specifications, the UT will be available in a single trim level.

Drivers wanting more equipment will be able to choose an optional Premium Pack, which adds:

  • Panoramic glass roof

  • Powered tailgate

  • Ventilated driver's seat

  • Wireless phone charging

That straightforward specification could make comparing and configuring the AION UT considerably simpler for leasing customers.

What is the AION Great 8 Promise?

One of the UT's most unusual features isn't found inside the car at all.

Every AION UT comes with the company's Great 8 Promise, which includes:

  • Eight-year vehicle warranty

  • Eight years of servicing

  • Eight years of roadside assistance

  • MOT cover until the vehicle reaches eight years old

Importantly, the package is linked to the vehicle's VIN rather than its first owner.

That means the benefits remain with the UT if it changes hands, potentially adding reassurance for subsequent owners as well as the person who first takes delivery.

When can I order the AION UT in the UK?

UK order books for the AION UT are set to open in September 2026, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for October 2026.

Lease pricing has yet to be confirmed.

Once UK lease deals are announced, we'll be able to see how the UT stacks up against other electric superminis on monthly cost as well as range, equipment and charging performance.
