The sixth generation Nissan Micra revitalizes the brands EV Legacy

The Nissan Leaf has sold over 650,000 units since its launch in 2010, becoming one of the best-selling EVs worldwide and paving the way for Nissan’s next electric model, the Ariya. However, the Ariya has not matched the Leaf’s level of success. Now, Nissan is aiming to revitalize its combustion vehicle legacy by starting fresh with the sixth-generation Nissan Micra.

Nissan’s latest city car, built on the AmpR Small platform shared with the Renault 5, is worlds apart from the original Micras that rolled off the Sunderland production line back in 1992. Transformed from an internal combustion engine (ICE) model to a fully electric supermini, this new Micra retains its own distinctive style while sharing some DNA with the Renault 5.

Exterior Design

Although the new Micra shares some similarities with the popular Renault 5, Nissan has made deliberate efforts to differentiate its design and give this supermini a bold, unique identity. Distinctive styling elements replace many Renault 5 features, ensuring the Micra stands out on its own. One standout feature is the ‘Gelato Scoop’ / 'Ice Cream Scoop' a hollowed-out horizontal line that runs along the body from front to rear, adding character to its boxy silhouette.

At the front, the Micra forgoes a traditional grille, featuring a centrally mounted Nissan logo and the signature new ‘Bug Eye’ headlights. These oversized, oval daytime running light loops, which house smaller headlight units, have earned the nickname “Nissan’s spectacles” and perform a cheeky wink welcome sequence as you approach or return to the vehicle.

The Micra rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and will be available in various colors, including Authentic Blue, Elegant Silver, Rebel Red, and Pure White, each with contrasting black roofs, or in Mystery Black and Nobel Marine shades paired with stylish grey roofs.

Interior

Inside the new Nissan Micra EV, the interior takes strong cues from its Renault 5 sibling but opts for a more modern, minimalist, and tech-forward design. While the Renault 5 embraces a retro vibe, Nissan offers a simpler, cleaner cabin with three trim options to suit different tastes. The Comfort Entry level features practical black and grey fabrics, the Audacious trim blends leather-effect materials with dark blue upholstery and contrasting stitching for a sporty feel, and the premium trim creates a calming atmosphere with off-white fabrics, pale greys, a white dashboard, and subtle wood-effect accents.

Just like the Renualt 5 a pair of sharp 10-inch screens dominate the dashboard, one serving as a digital instrument cluster, and the other powering the NissanConnect infotainment system with Google built-in, providing seamless access to Maps, Assistant, and your favourite apps.

Nissan has redesigned the steering wheel from the R5’s version, offering a distinct shape and style while retaining physical buttons that are intuitive and easy to navigate. Behind the wheel, paddle shifters let you control regenerative braking with four levels: three standard settings plus a full one-pedal drive mode for smoother, more efficient driving. Volume control is handled via a third indicator stalk located behind the steering wheel, a feature found in other Renault models including the Scenic and Megane E-Tech.

Battery and Range

Like the Renault 5, the new Nissan Micra EV offers two battery options. A 40 kWh pack paired with a 121 bhp electric motor, and a more powerful 52 kWh battery delivering 148 bhp. Both versions come with front-wheel drive, said to provide drivers with efficient and responsive performance ideal for city driving.

In terms of range, the 40 kWh battery offers approximately 192 miles on a full charge, while the 52 kWh extends that to around 253 miles, putting the Micra comfortably alongside rivals like the Peugeot e-208.

Charging is also convenient, with fast DC charging capability allowing you to replenish from 15% to 80% in roughly 30 minutes.

To offer even greater advantages of going fully electric, the All-New Micra will feature V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology on both battery options, allowing owners to use the battery’s power to run external devices.

Price and Availability

Launching in autumn 2025 across Europe, UK orders are rumoured to open September with first deliveries in early 2026. Nissan hasn’t announced UK pricing yet, but we expect it to come in similar to other models in the category, with an entry price point around £23,000–£25,000, climbing to around £32,000 for top‑spec models.
