With SUVs continuing to dominate the market, it’s clear that families are prioritising space, practicality and flexibility. For households that require seven seats, however, the options can feel more limited, particularly for those looking to move away from traditional petrol or diesel models.
Established choices such as the Ford Galaxy or the Mercedes GLS have long delivered on space and comfort, but growing concerns around emissions, alongside rising fuel and maintenance costs, are prompting many buyers to consider electric alternatives.
So what options are available in the electric seven-seat market? More importantly, do they deliver the practicality families need and how much do they cost?

Volvo EX90

The Volvo EX90 brings together premium Scandinavian design, next-level safety and everyday practicality in a refined seven-seat electric SUV. Delivering a range of up to 378 miles (WLTP) on selected powertrains and offering 1,500kg towing capacity (braked), the EX90 is frequently compared to Volvo’s long-standing family favourite, the XC90.
From the 2026 model year onwards, the EX90 benefits from 800-volt charging architecture, enabling faster DC charging speeds and making long journeys more convenient with shorter charging stops.
Inside, the EX90 features a true seven-seat layout, with three seats in the second row and two in the rear. While it is more compact than rivals such as the Kia EV9 and Hyundai IONIQ 9, this does mean boot space measures 310 litres with all seats in place. Premium materials, intuitive digital interfaces and advanced comfort features combine to deliver the high-quality interior experience expected from Volvo.
The EX90 is available with a range of powertrains and trim levels. Plus models come generously equipped as standard, featuring a panoramic sunroof, four-zone climate control, a large touchscreen infotainment system with Google built-in, and a comprehensive suite of driver assistance and safety technologies.
Ultra adds enhanced interior finishes, 21-inch alloy wheels and additional comfort features such as optional massaging front seats and upgraded audio.
Twin Motor Performance variants offer increased power and sharper acceleration. Optional extras include premium sound systems, advanced driver-assist packages and bespoke paint finishes to further personalise your EX90.
One standout feature of the EX90 is its standard-fit LiDAR sensor, a technology that is optional or unavailable on many competitors. Combining powerful silicon chips, advanced sensors and Volvo-developed perception software, Volvo refers to this system as a “digital seatbelt”, claiming it has the potential to reduce accidents involving death or serious injury by up to 20%. The LiDAR system also provides the hardware foundation for full autonomous driving, ready to be activated as soon as global legislation permits.

The Maxus is available in three trims. Elite models focus on core practicality and value, with seven seats, electric sliding doors, full-length sunroof and a suite of driver assistance systems as standard.
Luxury trims build on this with enhanced comfort features such as upgraded upholstery, larger infotainment screens, powered seating adjustments and additional convenience tech.

KIA PV5

The Kia PV5 is currently available in the UK as a five-seat, fully electric passenger vehicle, marking the brand’s first dedicated model under its new Purpose-Built Vehicle (PBV) strategy. Designed from the outset to maximise interior space and flexibility, the PV5 combines a boxy, van-inspired silhouette with a flat EV floor to deliver exceptional practicality. With generous headroom, sliding side doors and a large boot capacity, it is aimed squarely at families, shuttle services and business users seeking everyday usability in an electric format.
However, a seven-seat version is expected to arrive in Summer 2026. This variant will introduce two additional rear seats featuring a ‘fold and drive’ configuration, allowing drivers to quickly switch between carrying passengers and creating additional load space. The flexibility of this layout reflects the PV5’s dual-purpose design ethos.
Unlike the Kia EV9, the brand’s flagship luxury electric SUV, the PV5 has been engineered both as a passenger vehicle and as a cargo van. Where the EV9 is positioned as a premium, high-specification electric alternative to SUVs such as the Range Rover, the PV5 takes a more functional approach. Set to compete with vehicles such as the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, it prioritises practicality, comfort and maximum usable space.
The Kia PV5 5 Seat is already available with Lease Electric. Once released, the 7 Seat alternative will be available to Business, Personal and Salary Sacrifice Customers:
