Duracell,the name we all associate with long-lasting power,is now setting its sights on something much bigger: keeping Britain’s electric vehicles moving. The company has announced a major £200 million investment over the next decade to build a nationwide network of ultra-fast EV charging stations.
To bring this ambitious plan to life, Duracell has licensed Elektra Charge, a brand-new charge point operator created specifically to run the Duracell E-Charge network. And behind the scenes, the infrastructure itself will be developed and funded by the EV Network (EVN), one of the UK’s leading EV charging developers.
1,000 kW Charging on the Horizon
Duracell already offers the 7kW home DuraCharger, a solar-compatible unit packed with smart features designed to make at-home EV charging easier, greener, and more cost-effective. But with public charging demand rising rapidly, Duracell is now shifting its focus to the national network, starting with plans to launch 100 new sites and at least 500 charging points by 2030. If the rollout proves successful, the network could expand further across Europe and beyond.
Designed to echo Duracell’s iconic cylindrical batteries, each charging unit will be capable of powering two vehicles at once, delivering around 400kW, placing them among the fastest public chargers currently available in Europe.
And Duracell E-Charge isn’t stopping there. The network also aims to introduce next-generation ultra-fast chargers of up to 1,000 kW, ensuring exceptional uptime and flexible payment options, from app-based control to contactless tap-and-go.
The first six Duracell E-Charge sites are set to go live later this year, with rapid expansion continuing throughout 2026 and well into the future.
