Introducing KIA's Side-Entry Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle

Kia has expanded its growing accessible mobility portfolio with the introduction of the new PV5 WAV Side Entry, a fully electric wheelchair-accessible vehicle (WAV) designed to improve independence and mobility for wheelchair users across Europe.

Making its European debut at the Motability Scheme Live exhibition in Birmingham, the new model reinforces Kia's commitment to inclusive electric transport solutions while showcasing the versatility of its Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) range.

Designed for Easier Everyday Access

The Kia PV5 WAV Side Entry introduces a unique side-entry configuration that allows wheelchair users to enter and exit directly from the pavement, improving safety and convenience in urban environments.

Ideal for private users, community transport providers, taxi operators and shuttle services, the side-entry layout is specifically designed to simplify everyday travel while enhancing accessibility.

A practical two-step manual ramp system helps accommodate varying pavement heights and road conditions, offering a gentle incline for easier wheelchair access. Integrated floor lighting also improves visibility during boarding and disembarking, helping create a safer user experience.

Flexible Seating for Passengers and Wheelchair Users

Versatility is at the heart of the PV5 WAV Side Entry. The vehicle can be configured in multiple seating layouts to accommodate both standard passengers and wheelchair users.

The centrally positioned wheelchair space creates a more inclusive cabin environment, allowing wheelchair users to travel alongside other occupants rather than being separated at the rear of the vehicle.

A flexible third-row seating arrangement also enables a companion or family member to sit next to the wheelchair user, making journeys more comfortable and social.

Built for Safety and Durability

Kia has engineered the PV5 WAV Side Entry with reinforced floor structures and an integrated wheelchair anchorage system to provide secure transportation and long-term durability.

Developed under Kia's innovative Made-In-Plant (MIP) conversion programme, the vehicle is built to the same quality standards as factory-produced Kia models, ensuring consistency, reliability and scalability for European markets.

Expanding Kia's Accessible Electric Vehicle Offering

The PV5 WAV Side Entry joins Kia's broader wheelchair-accessible vehicle strategy as part of the company's PBV business.

Alongside the new side-entry model, Kia UK conversion partner GM Coachwork now offers three rear-entry PV5 WAV variants, providing customers with greater choice depending on their individual mobility requirements.

The wider range includes specialist accessibility features such as fold-flat ramps, powered tailgates, automatic ramp deployment and full drive-from-wheelchair functionality, helping deliver mobility solutions for a wide variety of users.

Built on Award-Winning Electric Vehicle Technology

The PV5 WAV Side Entry is based on the Kia PV5 Passenger, which was recently recognised as Best Van-Based MPV at the 2026 What Car? Van and Commercial Vehicle Awards.

Built on Kia's advanced E-GMP.S platform, the vehicle benefits from a dedicated electric architecture designed for durability, flexibility and connected mobility services. The platform also supports integration with modern fleet management systems, making it suitable for both personal and commercial applications.

The Future of Accessible Electric Mobility

As demand for accessible electric vehicles continues to grow, the Kia PV5 WAV Side Entry represents an important step forward in making sustainable transport more inclusive.

By combining practical accessibility features with the benefits of an electric platform, Kia is helping ensure that the transition to cleaner mobility is available to everyone.

Further details regarding pricing and availability of the Kia PV5 WAV Side Entry will be announced in the coming months.
