In 2024, the Lease Electric team continued to support people to transition to EVs. Our Climate Positive Leasing Service provided businesses and consumers with accessible and affordable electric vehicle leasing solutions.

As we enter 2025, we have taken a look back on 2024, and curated a list of our most popular EVs over the last year. Our top 10 includes cars popular with families, favourite company cars, cars most popular with those partaking in our EV Salary Sacrifice Scheme, and even an Electric Van, which became a sought after EV with our business customers.

 

Ford Mustang Mach-E

Introduced in 2021 in the UK, the Mach-E is Ford's first all-electric family SUV, now enhanced with a new rear motor, improved DC charging, and a revamped GT model for 2024.

Despite its compact appearance, it measures between a Jaguar I-PACE and a Mercedes EQC, with a boot capacity of 402 litres expandable to 1,420 litres when seats are folded, plus an 81-litre front storage area. 

The base Select RWD variant offers a 292-mile WLTP range, while the Premium RWD and AWD models provide 372 miles and 341 miles, respectively. The GT edition delivers a 310-mile range. All variants support charging speeds up to 150kW, achieving a 10-80% charge in 33 to 45 minutes. The Mach-E is designed to combine the Mustang legacy with cutting-edge electric performance.

Tesla Model Y 

The Tesla Model Y is a compact SUV that builds on the success of the Model 3, offering an impressive range of up to 326 miles on a single charge. Its interior is crafted to be spacious and contemporary, featuring advanced technologies and a stylish design, accentuated by a panoramic glass roof.

Standard features enhance the Model Y's functionality, including 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats for versatile storage options. Depending on the configuration, cargo space ranges from 854 litres in the five-seat arrangement to an impressive 2,158 litres when the seats are folded down. Moreover, the Long Range All-Wheel Drive version provides the option for a third row, accommodating up to 7 passengers.

Volkswagen ID.4

Built on Volkswagen's MEB electric platform, the ID.4 and ID.5 (a SUV-coupe, which is also favored by electric lease customers) is offered in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, featuring a 77 kWh battery. In 2024, the ID.4 was updated to provide improved battery options, yielding a range of up to 330 miles (WLTP) on a single charge.Fast charging capabilities enable users to recharge up to 80% in approximately 30-35 minutes when using a DC fast charger.

The ID.4 comes with the latest Volkswagen ID. Cockpit system, which includes a large touchscreen, an optional head-up display, and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

This model is equipped with advanced driver-assist features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, automatic emergency braking, and more.

The 2024 ID.4 is now available in several trims, including ID.4 Life, ID.4 Business, ID.4 Style, and ID.4 Max variants.

 

Kia EV6

 

The Kia EV6 is the brand's first dedicated electric vehicle, designed and constructed as a fully electric car from the beginning. It is similar in dimensions with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Cupra Tavascan and is built on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

In 2024, three years post-launch, the Kia EV6 received several enhancements. This updated model includes a larger battery, refreshed styling, and some updates to the cabin, aligning it with the Kia EV9 flagship SUV and the recently released Kia EV3.

The EV6 is now equipped with an 86kWh battery, an upgrade from the previous 77.4kWh unit. As a result, the range has improved across the lineup; the rear-wheel drive EV6 Air and GT-Line models can cover up to 361 miles on a single charge, while the rear-wheel drive GT-Line S achieves 347 miles.

Kia prioritizes safety by equipping the EV6 with advanced driver-assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking.

BYD Seal

The BYD Seal serves as the flagship model, sitting above the Atto 3 and Dolphin, and frequently competes with the Tesla Model 3, BMW i4, and Polestar 4 as customers seek their next electric vehicle.

Built on the cutting-edge BYD e-Platform 3.0, the Seal incorporates advanced Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology. It comes in two versions: the Excellence AWD and the Design variant, the latter of which features a single rear motor. The Design variant boasts a range of up to 354 miles and can charge from 30% to 80% in just 26 minutes at a maximum rate of 150kW. For those looking for a more powerful option, the BYD Seal Excellence AWD delivers 530bhp, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in only 3.8 seconds, making it one of the fastest EVs currently available in the UK.

The design is crafted by former Audi stylist Wolfgang Egger, utilising the brand's 'Ocean Aesthetics' design language, which incorporates subtle gill and fin elements to enhance the maritime theme. The Seal's dimensions are 4,800mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,460mm in height, making it 106mm longer, 58mm narrower, and 17mm taller than the Tesla Model 3.

It is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, heated and ventilated seats, dual-zone air conditioning, adaptive cruise control, and a versatile touchscreen infotainment system that can switch between portrait and landscape orientations. Safety is a top priority, featuring automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane assistance.

BMW I4

BMW I4

The i4 marks BMW's inaugural all-electric premium vehicle, aimed specifically at the traditional midsize market. It made its debut in 2021.

The RWD eDrive35 variant delivers 282bhp and 295lb-ft of torque, sprinting from 0-62mph in a quick six seconds, powered by a 70kWh battery (67kWh usable) that boasts an impressive range of 299 miles on a single charge. The eDrive40 variant enhances this experience with a larger battery (84/81kWh), offering 335bhp and 317lb-ft of torque, enabling it to achieve 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds while providing a range of 359 miles (WLTP).

For those interested in a twin-motor option, the AWD M50 variant stands out. It accelerates from 0-62mph in an incredible 3.9 seconds, thanks to its 526bhp and 586lb-ft of torque. Part of the M Performance lineup, it features a sportier suspension; however, the larger tyres and additional motor slightly decrease the range to 315 miles.

Polestar 2

Polestar is a Swedish maker of premium electric vehicles, with the Polestar 2 being an all-electric fastback that combines Scandinavian design and advanced technology. Comparable in size to the Tesla Model 3, it features a minimalist interior made from sustainable materials and a dual-motor powertrain offering a significant range.

The cabin is equipped with an Android Automotive OS infotainment system for easy Google service access. Safety is emphasized with advanced driver assistance features. The updated Long Range Single Motor variant boasts a range of 406 miles (WLTP) and rapid charging capability, reaching 10-80% in just 28 minutes.

The Polestar 2 has been a firm favourite for Lease Electric Customers since its launch and in 2024 remains a top choice for those partaking the in the EV Salary Sacrifice Scheme

Volvo EX30

Volvo EX30

The Volvo EX30 stands as the smallest fully electric vehicle in the Volvo lineup. This compact SUV is comparable in size to the Jeep Avenger and Kia Niro EV. Built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), the EX30 shares its foundation with the Smart #1 and is equipped with a new Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery.

The EX30 comes with a 51 kWh battery, delivering 272 hp and offering a range of up to 214 miles. Alternatively, the Single Motor Extended Range EX30 features a larger 69 kWh battery, maintaining the same power of 272 hp, while extending its range to 298 miles between charges. For those seeking performance, the EX30 Twin Motor Performance version boasts an impressive 428 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.6 seconds.

The Volvo EX30 prioritises safety, earning a 5-star Euro NCAP rating in 2024. It includes various safety features, such as an advanced driver alert system that monitors well-being. The intersection auto brake feature helps prevent accidents by automatically halting the car if another vehicle crosses its path. Additionally, a door opening alert system warns drivers of approaching cyclists to reduce incidents, enhancing overall safety for road users.

In terms of construction, the EX30 has a robust steel chassis, complemented by a body made from a blend of aluminum, steel, and plastic, with nearly 60% (by volume) being recycled materials. Inside, about one-fifth of the car’s moldings are also recycled, and much of the upholstery is crafted from recycled polyester or denim. As a result of these sustainable choices, Volvo claims that the EX30 has the lowest ‘life-cycle carbon emissions’ of any vehicle they have ever produced.

MG ZS

MG ZS EV

MG's ZS EV is well-known for its spaciousness, practicality, and a wide array of safety and driver assistance features, all while being budget-friendly.

The ZS is offered in two versions: the SE and the Trophy, with both available in standard or long-range configurations. The standard range ZS is equipped with a 51kWh battery, delivering 198 miles (WLTP), while the long-range variant features a 73kWh battery, allowing for 273 miles on a single charge (WLTP).

In addition to its practical advantages, the ZS EV includes rapid charging capabilities, enabling it to charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes when using a 100kWh charger.

VW ID.Buzz Cargo

Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo

For numerous businesses, sustainability continues to be a vital aspect of their ongoing development and continuity strategies. Many of our clients have found it relatively straightforward to introduce electric company cars, but the search for the ideal all-electric van has proven more challenging. However, in 2024, our customers embraced the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo, making it one of our most sought-after electric vehicles of the year.

The ID. Buzz Cargo is equipped with a fully electric motor, offering various battery size options that provide a range of up to 257 miles (WLTP). It is built on Volkswagen's Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform, which is utilised across the ID family of vehicles.

The rear compartment is designed for transporting goods, with customisable features for securing and organising the area. The ID. Buzz Cargo boasts a generous cargo space of up to 3.9 cubic meters and a payload capacity of 687 kg. Its design facilitates easy access with sliding side doors and a large rear hatch, featuring three seats and an unbraked towing weight of 750 kg.
