Here’s What You Need to Know

Mitsubishi enthusiasts, the wait is nearly over. International Motors Ltd,one of the UK’s leading vehicle importers, has confirmed that Mitsubishi will officially return to the UK new-car market in summer 2026, five years after its departure. And this comeback is set to be a big one.

The Mitsubishi models heading our way will be selected from the brand’s global lineup, giving UK drivers access to the latest engineering and technology. Expect modern hybrid systems, strong connectivity features and, of course, the signature four-wheel-drive capability that helped build Mitsubishi’s reputation over decades.

Supporting the relaunch is Mitsubishi’s already well-established aftersales network, which includes more than 100 sites across the UK. International Motors is also appointing a dedicated group of retailers who will handle new-car sales and customer support ahead of first deliveries in 2026.

A Brand With Real History

Mitsubishi has long earned its status as one of Japan’s most influential car makers. From icons like the Lancer Evolution to pioneering early plug-in hybrid technology, the brand has consistently championed practical innovation.

Today, Mitsubishi is part of the wider Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance, which means several of its models share engineering platforms with familiar favourites. The Colt supermini, for example, is derived from the Renault Clio, while the ASX is based on the Captur. Meanwhile, the ever-popular Outlander SUV shares its underpinnings with the Nissan X-Trail, blending Mitsubishi design cues with proven alliance engineering.

What’s Coming to the UK?

The full UK lineup hasn’t yet been finalised, but early indications suggest that Mitsubishi’s return will start with hybrid-friendly models such as the Colt, ASX and Outlander, all well-suited to the needs of UK drivers. Electric models are also on the way, including a rebadged version of the Renault Scenic EV, expected to carry the Eclipse Cross name, as well as a compact EV based on the next-generation Nissan Leaf.

Even as Mitsubishi shifts towards a more electrified future, its heritage in rugged, off-road-capable vehicles remains a core part of the brand. Models such as the Shogun Sport and Triton pick-up continue to be strong performers globally, though their UK return has not yet been confirmed.

What This Means for UK Drivers

For many, Mitsubishi’s return marks the revival of a trusted, practical and performance-led brand. With a strong aftersales network already in place and new retailers preparing to open their doors, 2026 promises to be an exciting year for both long-time Mitsubishi fans and drivers simply seeking more hybrid and electric choice.
