Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has refreshed the entry-level ID. Buzz Cargo, making its distinctive electric van more affordable and more capable for UK businesses.
The updated model replaces the previous 59kWh version with a new 58kWh battery. Despite the slightly smaller capacity, improved efficiency has increased its official WLTP range from 201 to 218 miles, giving drivers an additional 17 miles between charges.
Performance has improved too, with power increasing from 170PS to 190PS.
A lower starting price
Perhaps the biggest news for businesses is the price. The new entry-level ID. Buzz Cargo starts from £29,995 excluding VAT – £5,655 less than the model it replaces.
The van is also awaiting confirmation of eligibility for the Government’s Plug-in Van Grant, which could reduce the cost further if approved.
Combined with the potential running-cost and maintenance savings available from switching to electric, the lower price makes the ID. Buzz Cargo a more accessible option for businesses looking to reduce their fleet emissions.
Power your tools from the van
Volkswagen has also introduced vehicle-to-load technology across the ID. Buzz Cargo range.
A three-pin socket in the load area can provide a continuous 2kW power supply, rising to a peak output of 3.6kW. This allows drivers to power equipment directly from the van’s battery, including tools, laptops and lighting.
For tradespeople and mobile businesses, it could reduce the need to carry a separate generator or portable power station.
Smarter technology on the road
The updated ID. Buzz Cargo features Volkswagen’s latest ID. Software 6.0 infotainment system, complete with an integrated app store for downloading parking, charging and media services directly to the vehicle.
Connected Travel Assist has also been added, using online information to support the van’s driver-assistance systems. This includes the ability to recognise traffic lights and automatically bring the vehicle to a stop at a red signal.
Practicality remains a priority
The ID. Buzz Cargo continues to offer up to 3.9 cubic metres of load space, while its compact footprint and 12.6-metre turning circle help make it manageable around busy towns and city streets.
For businesses requiring greater range, other versions of the ID. Buzz Cargo can travel up to 277 miles and support DC rapid charging at up to 185kW.

With a lower price, longer range, additional power and the ability to run equipment from its battery, the latest ID. Buzz Cargo is a more practical proposition for businesses considering their first electric van.
