Originally set to expire this April, the Department for Transport (DfT) announced yesterday (Tuesday 25th February) that the plug-in van grant has been extended until April 2026, benefiting from a portion of £120 million in Government funding.
The plug-in van grant will maintain its current levels, providing up to £2,500 for small vans weighing up to 2.5 tonnes and up to £5,000 for larger vans weighing up to 4.25 tonnes.
Since its launch in 2012, the DfT estimates that this grant has supported the sale of over 80,000 electric and zero-emission vans. Fleets will appreciate the ongoing financial assistance to support their transition, which coincides with changes to driving licence regulations for heavier electric vans which are pending parliamentary approval.
Additionally, the DfT has announced an extension of grants up to £4,000 for taxi drivers transitioning to electric vehicles for another year.
The cap on the plug-in wheelchair accessible vehicle grant will rise from £35,000 to £50,000, and motorcyclists will continue to benefit from a £500 Government grant to purchase an electric motorbike for an additional year.
