Tesla has lifted the covers on the new Model Y Performance, the fastest and most advanced version of its best-selling electric SUV. Designed to takes the practicality of the Model Y and adds a dose of supercar performance.
The Performance version borrows its powertrain from the latest Model 3 Performance. That means 460 PS (around 453 bhp), a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, and enough torque to launch from 0–62 mph in just 3.3 seconds. To put that into perspective, it’s almost identical to the acceleration of a Ferrari Roma, and only slightly slower than the Lotus Emeya (that achieves 0-62mph in just 2.78 seconds) yet the Tesla Model Y Performance remains a five-seat family car. The top speed is capped at 155 mph, and despite its performance, Tesla still quotes a WLTP range of 360 miles.

Engineers tested the car extensively at Nürburgring, one of the most challenging race tracks in the world. According to Tesla, this has resulted in a stiffer chassis, revised suspension, uprated springs and roll bars, and performance-tuned bushings. These changes are said to promise sharper handling without sacrificing the comfort that makes the Model Y so popular.
A carbon-fibre rear spoiler, red brake calipers and sportier bumpers subtly distinguish the Performance model, while also improving stability and aerodynamics at speed.

Inside, the updates are just as noticeable. The cabin features real carbon-fibre trim and supportive new Performance sport seats, designed to keep the driver comfortable and secure during spirited driving. Tesla’s upgraded 16-inch QHD touchscreen replaces the 15.4-inch display found in the standard Model Y, offering sharper graphics and a more immersive interface. Rear passengers still benefit from their own 8-inch screen, while the panoramic glass roof and minimalist Tesla interior design remain.
In the UK, deliveries are expected towards the end of 2025, with Tesla teasing a launch window in October and November.
