The Last Petrol T-Roc. A Turning Point for Volkswagen.

The Last Petrol T-Roc. A Turning Point for Volkswagen.

Volkswagen has unveiled the all-new T-Roc, signalling the end of an era for petrol VWs.

Since 2017, over two million VW T-Rocs have found homes across Europe, making it one of Volkswagen’s most successful models. The latest refresh brings sharper styling, hybridised petrol engines, and the latest tech, but its real significance lies elsewhere. This is likely the last petrol-powered VW SUV before Volkswagen’s UK line-up goes fully electric.

The End of Petrol in Volkswagen’s UK SUVs

The new T-Roc is impressive, but the bigger story is the shift in Volkswagen’s strategy. With this launch, VW is signalling the end of combustion engines in its UK SUV range. The future belongs to Volkswagen’s ID. family of electric vehicles, including:

  • ID.4 and ID.5:Fully electric SUVs competing in the same segment as the T-Roc.

  • ID.3: VWs smallest EV
  • ID.7:A premium electric saloon.

  • ID.Buzz: An all-electric reinvention of the iconic campervan, now with 7 seats.

Volkswagen’s ID range is already gaining traction in the UK. The ID.4, for example, was among the top 10 best-selling electric vehicles in 2024, proving that drivers are ready to embrace electric.

Chloe-Approved: Why the ID.4.

“I’ve been driving a VW ID.4 for the past year, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s comfortable, easy to drive, and packed with features like heated seats, steering wheel and pre-setting climate control ready for the drive home. It grips the road, handles corners effortlessly, accelerates quickly and delivers 365–370 miles on a single charge. With all that in mind, why would I choose a hybrid or petrol car?”

Why This Shift Matters

The new T-Roc reminds us how quickly the automotive landscape is changing. UK cities are tightening emissions rules, businesses are under pressure to cut Scope 1 emissions, and EV infrastructure is expanding rapidly. For drivers and fleets, sticking with petrol is becoming harder to justify.

While the T-Roc receives a final petrol upgrade, the real innovation and investment is happening in Volkswagen’s electric models. For leasing customers, this means more choice, stronger incentives, and a genuine opportunity to go climate-positive without compromise.
