As the demand for EV grows, more manufactures are bringing seven-seaters to market.

Fuelled by increasing demand, evolving regulations, technological progress, and decreasing expenses, alongside a minor yet expanding trend for luxurious people carriers. Some companies have introduced seven-seat electric cars by retrofitting seats into the back of their electric vans, whilst others have developed premium-grade products in the form of all new electric cars.

The EX90 is an iteration of the XC90, incorporating elements from the Polestar brand. The standard model boasts 402bhp, while the 'Performance' version increases that to 510bhp. Maxus is a relatively new brand in the UK, having been present since 2010. While Maxus vans have been available for some time, the Mifa 9 marks the company's debut into the passenger car segment. Despite its van-like appearance, the Mifa 9 was not intended as a commercial vehicle.

 

The Maxus MIFA 9 is a versatile electric vehicle designed with passengers in mind, featuring a unique 2-2-3 seating layout. The second row boasts two luxurious 'captains' chairs that are adjustable and comfortable, resembling armchairs. The third row is more compact, accommodating three seats. The seats can be adjusted for convenience and access, and the armrests feature smartphone-style screens to control various functions, including massage and heating in higher-end models. Additionally, the cabin includes table trays and multiple charging points for electronic devices.

 

The vehicle is equipped with a 90kWh unit, providing enough power for a range of 272 miles in the lightest, base model, or 267 miles in the heavier, top-tier versions. It can be charged from 30 to 80 percent at a public rapid charging station within half an hour, or fully charged in eight and a half hours using a standard 7Kwh charger.

Described as a ‘van with windows’ by some, the Citroen e-Berlingo XL is an affordable electric vehicle that offers two extra removable seats in the third row. Similar to the Peugeot E-Rifter and Vauxhall Combo Life Electric, the Citroen e-Berlingo XL features an extended wheelbase to accommodate an additional row of seats. Its tall and boxy design ensures ample headroom, while sliding doors provide easy access.

 
 

Equipped with a robust 100 kW (136 bhp) motor and a 52 kWh battery, the new ë-Berlingo now boasts a range of up to 198 miles (WLTP).To further optimise this range, the regenerative braking system allows the driver to choose from three levels using paddles behind the steering wheel.

Three driving modes are available: Eco for maximum range, Power for peak performance, and Normal. Additionally, an innovative heat pump, available as an option, can warm the cabin without using battery power, thus preserving the vehicle's range.

The Tesla Model X has been a part of Tesla's vehicle lineup for several years. However, in early 2021, Tesla made the decision to discontinue offering both the Model X and the Model S in the UK, focusing on the Model 3 and Model Y instead.

Rumours suggest that the Model X might return to the UK in 2024. The 2024 model is anticipated to be an eye-catching electric SUV featuring distinctive falcon-style rear doors and a wide array of available technology. It is said that two models may be released, including a dual-motor Long Range variant boasting 670 horsepower and an estimated 335 miles of driving range. By default, the Tesla X comes with 5 seats, but a 7-seat configuration can also be requested.

 

Peugeot E-5008

Set to go on sale this autumn.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The PEUGEOT E-5008 showcases the adaptability of Stellantis' STLA Medium platform and introduces an extended configuration. It boasts a spacious design, featuring a 2.90 m wheelbase and measuring 4.79 m in length, providing room for up to seven passengers.

This model offers three electric powertrain options:

 

210 Single Motor variant: 207bhp, 73kWh battery, and a range of 311 miles.

230 Long Range Single Motor variant: 227bhp, 98kWh battery, and a range of 410 miles.

320 Dual Motor AWD variant: 316bhp, 73kWh battery, and an estimated range of 300 miles.

 

All E-5008 models support rapid charging speeds up to 160kW.

 

The E-5008 interior accommodates seven passengers, with a 259-litre boot capacity when all seats are in use. Folding the third row expands cargo space to 748 litres, while folding the middle row provides a substantial 1,815 litres of storage.

 

Volkswagen ID/Buzz GTX

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX has been unveiled as the most powerful Bulli model to date, featuring standard all-wheel drive for optimal performance and traction in various driving situations. This model offers two wheelbase options: a standard version with a 79kWh battery and an extended wheelbase variant with an upgraded 86kWh battery and an extra 25cm in length, introducing a seven-seater configuration.

 

While details about UK specifications, pricing, and release dates for the ID. Buzz GTX are yet to be announced, this model is set to bring excitement and innovation to the Volkswagen range.
