What is the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo?
The Volkswagen ID.3 Neo is the latest generation of Volkswagen’s compact electric hatchback.
Rather than simply updating the existing ID.3, Volkswagen has made significant changes inside and out. There’s a refreshed exterior, a completely redesigned interior and new battery and drive options, alongside Volkswagen’s latest infotainment and driver-assistance technology.
That makes the ID.3 Neo an important new option for drivers looking for a practical electric company car, salary sacrifice EV or everyday family electric car.
How much does the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo cost?
The Volkswagen ID.3 Neo starts from £33,080 in the UK before the Electric Car Grant.
At launch, buyers can choose between Life, Style and the limited-run Style Launch Edition.
| Volkswagen ID.3 Neo | OTR price | Price incl. £1,500 grant |
|---|---|---|
| Life 50 kWh 170 PS | £33,080 | £31,580 |
| Life 58 kWh 190 PS | £35,495 | £33,995 |
| Life 79 kWh 231 PS | £36,995 | £35,495 |
| Style 58 kWh 190 PS | £38,500 | £37,000 |
| Style 79 kWh 231 PS | £40,000 | £38,500 |
| Style Launch Edition 58 kWh 190 PS | £39,750 | £38,250 |
For company-car drivers, the purchase price is only part of the equation. Electric cars can also offer attractive running-cost and tax advantages compared with equivalent petrol or diesel cars, making the ID.3 Neo worth considering as part of an EV salary sacrifice scheme.

What is the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo's range?
The longest-range Volkswagen ID.3 Neo can travel up to 390 miles on a full charge, according to official WLTP figures.
There are three battery options:
| Battery | WLTP range | Power | 0–62 mph | Max DC charging |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 kWh | Up to 258 miles | 170 PS / 125 kW | 8.6 sec | 100 kW |
| 58 kWh | Up to 306 miles | 190 PS / 140 kW | 8.0 sec | 105 kW |
| 79 kWh | Up to 390 miles | 231 PS / 170 kW | 7.1 sec | 183 kW |
The 79 kWh version is the standout for high-mileage drivers, with its 390-mile WLTP range putting significantly more distance between charging stops.
How fast does the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo charge?
Depending on the battery, the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo supports DC rapid charging at up to 183 kW.
Volkswagen quotes the following 10–80% charging times:
-
50 kWh: around 24 minutes at up to 100 kW
-
58 kWh: around 26 minutes at up to 105 kW
-
79 kWh: around 29 minutes at up to 183 kW
That means even the longest-range ID.3 Neo can recover a substantial amount of range during a motorway coffee stop when connected to a sufficiently powerful rapid charger.
What's new on the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo?
1. A cleaner exterior design
The ID.3 Neo gets a substantial visual refresh.
Volkswagen has divided the body into three horizontal levels to create a cleaner appearance, while the previous black roof and tailgate treatment has been removed.
There are also redesigned LED headlights connected by a wide glass-covered crossbar. On Style models, part of this bar is continuously illuminated, while the central Volkswagen badge is illuminated too.
A new Norwegian Sea Blue paint colour joins the range.
The overall result brings the ID.3 closer to Volkswagen’s latest generation of models, including the ID. Polo.
2. A completely reworked interior
Some of the biggest changes are inside.
Volkswagen says it has responded to customer feedback by prioritising easier-to-use physical controls, including buttons and rotary knobs.
The dashboard, seats and door panels feature new materials, while the amount of gloss-black trim has been reduced – good news for anyone who has spent too much time wiping fingerprints from a car interior.
Drivers get a 10.25-inch digital display, while a 12.9-inch infotainment system handles navigation, entertainment and connected features.
There's even a retro display mode for drivers who fancy something a little different.
3. One-pedal driving
The ID.3 Neo introduces one-pedal driving, allowing the car to use rgenerative braking to slow all the way to a standstill.
4. Smarter driver assistance
Volkswagen has upgraded the ID.3 Neo's assistance systems too.
Optional Connected Travel Assist can detect traffic lights and automatically bring the vehicle to a stop at a red light.
Lane Assist can detect an unintended departure from the lane at speeds above approximately 40 mph and provide steering intervention and steering-wheel vibration warnings.
The Style Launch Edition also includes Travel Assist 3.0 and Park Assist Pro, which adds remote and memory parking functionality.
Driver-assistance features remain aids rather than a substitute for an attentive driver.
5. Vehicle-to-load power
One of the ID.3 Neo's more interesting additions is optional vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.
With the appropriate adapter, the charging socket can provide up to 3.6 kW of power to compatible external devices.
In practical terms, that means energy stored in the ID.3 Neo's battery can be used to power equipment such as an e-bike or other electrical devices when you're away from a conventional power supply.

Is the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo a good company car?
On paper, the new ID.3 Neo has plenty going for it as an electric company car.
The up-to-390-mile range of the 79 kWh model should make it more practical for drivers regularly covering longer distances, while the smaller batteries provide potentially more affordable options for commuters who don't need maximum range.
The combination of improved interior controls, rapid charging, driver-assistance technology and a broad choice of batteries also makes it easier to choose an ID.3 Neo around how you actually drive.
And because it's fully electric, the ID.3 Neo can benefit from the UK tax treatment available to zero-emission company cars, an important consideration when comparing an EV through salary sacrifice with a privately financed vehicle.
