The YANGWANG U9 Xtreme has done it again. Just weeks after claiming the title of world’s fastest car with a blistering 308.33 MPH (496.22 km/h) run at ATP Papenburg, BYD’s luxury performance flagship has now rewritten the rulebook at the Nürburgring the legendary “Green Hell” of motorsport.
On 22 August 2025, the U9 Xtreme completed the Nürburgring Nordschleife’s iconic 12.9 mile (20.832 km) loop in 6 minutes 59.157 seconds, shattering the previous benchmark, set by the Rimac Nevera, by more than five seconds. It’s not just a record it’s the first time an all-electric supercar has dipped under the seven-minute mark.
The Power Behind the Performance
At the heart of the U9 Xtreme is the world’s first mass-produced all-domain 1200V ultra-high-voltage platform, paired with four high-performance motors capable of spinning up to 30,000 rpm. Together, they deliver over 3,000 PS and an extraordinary power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS per tonne setting new global standards for electric performance.
Built on the same e⁴ Platform and DiSus-X intelligent body-control system as the standard U9, the Xtreme variant introduces groundbreaking body-attitude control technology. This innovation enables the car to adapt its suspension dynamically for both top-speed stability and circuit agility a balance few supercars achieve.
Designed to Dominate
The Nürburgring challenge demanded more than just power it required precision. The U9 Xtreme was equipped with:
-
A completely redesigned cooling system for sustained high-speed endurance.
-
A titanium-alloy carbon-ceramic braking system for fade-free stopping power.
-
GitiSport e·GTR² PRO semi-slick tires, co-developed with Giti, ensuring maximum grip through the circuit’s 170+ corners.
The result? A car that excels not only in straight-line velocity but in the art of conquering the world’s most technical track.
Engineering the Impossible
Since July 2024, YANGWANG’s engineering team has been pushing the U9 Xtreme to its limits on the demanding Nordschleife circuit. Months of data collection, refinement, and calibration came together in this record-breaking lap, a showcase of what’s possible when electric innovation meets world-class performance engineering.
Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, shared her pride in the team’s achievement:
“We are dedicated to pushing the limits of what can be achieved through technology, and the Nürburgring is such a legendary challenge for cars and drivers that it is only natural for our engineers to pursue their dreams there. The limited-edition U9 Xtreme has proven that it is not only the world’s fastest car in a straight line but also a vehicle capable of record-breaking agility and precision.”
Limited. Legendary. Xtreme.
Only 30 units of the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme will ever be produced, and it is unlikely any will be available in the UK. Its name takes inspiration from the word “Extreme” the pursuit of the ultimate while the bold “X” stands for the unknown. Together, they embody YANGWANG’s philosophy: finding joy in exploration and innovation at the very edge of possibility.
