Introducing the Atto 2, BYD's latest electric SUV. Initially launched in China last year, the Atto 2 has made its European debut at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show, ahead of its UK launch this summer.
So, what do we know so far?
Battery
The Atto 2 is built on the e-platform 3.0, the same platform as all other BYD electric vehicles. Showcasing BYD's battery development expertise, it features a Blade Battery and, for the first time in a compact BYD model, utilises Cell-to-Body (CTB) construction. This innovative technique fully integrates the battery into the vehicle's chassis, with the battery pack’s top cover serving as the floor of the passenger compartment, to optimise space.
The Atto 2 will come with two battery sizes. The standard range edition will initially offer a capacity of 45.1 kWh, delivering a WLTP (combined) range of 190 miles. A larger battery version is anticipated in the coming months, though details on range are yet to be confirmed.
Size
With dimensions of 4,310mm in length, 1,830mm in width, and 1,675mm in height, the Atto 2 is only slightly shorter and narrower than the Atto 3, but comparative in size to the Kia EV 3 and Volvo EX30. The boot provides 400 liters of space, expandable to 1,340 liters when the split-folding rear seats are lowered.
Design
The front of the vehicle features seamlessly integrated full-LED headlights and sleek daytime-running lights, complemented by bright trim on the grille. The front bumper has sharp angles for a sporty look, enhanced by bright accents and vertical air curtains for improved efficiency.
At the rear, a distinctive roof spoiler sits above a full-width light bar connecting ‘Chinese knot’ tail-lights that resemble the number 8 and an Infinity Ring, to symbolise good fortune.
The Atto 2 comes standard in Climbing Grey, with optional colors including Hiking Green, Skiing White and Cosmos Black.
Cabin Design
The front cabin reflects the exterior's aesthetic, characterised by simple, clean lines. It features padded surfaces throughout, along with integrated handles in both front and rear doors and the lower center console.
The center console includes cup holders and an integrated armrest that opens to reveal multiple storage compartments. A panoramic glass roof enhances the cabin's ambiance, flooding the space with natural light for all passengers. Designed for electric vehicles, BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 boasts a completely flat floor for practical rear seat use.
The drive selector has a sophisticated cut-diamond design, with surrounding buttons for essential functions like the windscreen demisting, volume control and a switch for driving modes.
The Atto 2 features a large 12.8 inch central touchscreen that can rotate between portrait and landscape orientation, a familiar feature from BYD, along with an 8.8 inch digital instrument panel behind the steering wheel.
Early images indicate that BYD has upgraded the cabin materials compared to the Atto 3. Out are the plastic air vents resembling CD racks from the 90s and red elastic string door pockets. Instead, simple yet sophisticated designs enhance the cabin's feel.
While awaiting confirmation on available trims, fabrics, and colours for the interior, initial photos display a dark interior with ambient lighting highlighting various areas within the cabin.
The Atto 2 isn't the only new addition heading to showrooms soon. First, there's the BYD Sealion 7, a pure-electric coupé-SUV set to compete with the Tesla Model Y. Then BYD Seagull supermini, set to compete with the Dacia Spring. As we await the UK launch of the BYD Atto 2 and full specification, view our current BYD Leasing Deals.
